More collaborative interaction:

Los Tres Gatos solicited images of skulls which they will paste-up on the streets of Guadalajara to make a TZOMPANTLI -- Aztec skull rack -- during the Day of the Dead in 2021.

UPDATE (December 17, 2021):

Tres Gatos Press pasted-up  the Tzompantli in the Panteón de Mezquitán, and posted photos on Instagram:

Tortilla Press printmaking

This post to be completed soon

We followed the example of Los Tres Gatos Press and used a Tortilla Press to make 8 x 8 inch prints on the streets of New Mexico -- in Santa Fe, Albuquerque and Silver City.

Los Tres Gatos of Guadalajara innovated the Tortilla Press for making prints.  Joseph Velasquez of Drive By Press sold us one of these Tortilla Presses made with their design.

Joseph Velasquez made a YouTube video about how to use the Tortilla Press:

Five artists from Hecho A Mano gallery carved linoleum plates for us to print on the tortilla press.  Also Alejandra Mares and Xavier Moreno of Los Tres Gatos Press, sent two plates from Guadalajara for us to print as well.

Printmaking in Times of Covid

The whole world has been on pause during the Covid 19 epidemic.  We have been on lockdown for a whole year now in New Mexico here in the United States.  No one has been able to exhibit Ambos Lados during this time, but now things are starting to thaw out in March, 2021.  Below is what happened during lockdown, and some things to look forward to.

JUAN SANDOVAL
(1946 - 2021)

Juan Sandoval was a major print collector from El Paso who also spent a lot of time in Oaxaca, and collected prints by those artists.  We followed Juan Sandoval's lead when producing both the Ambos Lados and the Desert Triangle Print Carpeta projects.  We were proud to dedicate the Ambos Lados catalog to Juan Sandoval. He passed away on January 3, 2021.

Juan Sandoval was one of the major US collectors of Latin prints, and donated his print collection to the Mexic-Arte Museum in Austin, Texas.  Currently Mexic-Arte is exhibiting the Juan Sandoval collection -- Mexico, the Border, and Beyond: Selections from the Juan Sandoval Jr Collection -- from December 19, 2020 - August 22, 2021.
