Before the Ambos Lados exhibition ends, Manuel Guerra of Horned Toad Prints will be putting on a pop-up print exhibition on May 18th, 2023 in El Paso.  Sign up details at THIS LINK.

Next project:  Exquisite Linocuts.  We cut a stack of three 6x6 linoleum squares in the shape of the Rio Grande, and will pass the upper halves to artists in El Paso, and the lower halves to artists in Ciudad Juarez.  Then we will join and print the two halves, making 9 different prints, in the spirit of Exquisite Corpse art game:

Printmaking -- during the opening at the El Paso Museum of History

We printed live during the opening for Ambos Lados at the El Paso Museum of History, on March 18th, 2023:

STYROFOAM PRINTS

Visitors drew into Styrofoam with ball point pens, which made a deep enough gouge to avoid the ink and make good relief prints:

PRINTING with our FEET

We printed the Styrofoam plates Skateboard Press style, using a FEZIBO curved anti-fatigue board:

Results

We got a lot of nice artwork by drawing into Styrofoam and printing with our feet.  Moreover Styrofoam printing is easy, and the turnaround is quick, though it does not permit as much detail as linocut plates.

We had previously printed with Styrofoam at Quelab, and the Albuquerque drawing session.  Plus we had printed with our feet at Henry Morales' studio in Albuquerque.

Vallarie and Arturo Enriquez are pictured above.  They had just come back from the Netherlands where their photo is showing in the Mauritshuis Museum in The Hague, where Vermeer's "Girl with a Pearl Earring" used to hang.

Vermeer's famous "Girl with a Pearl Earring" was on loan to the Rijkmuseum in Amsterdam for the Vermeer exhibition -- so the Mauritshuis Museum asked artists to "make their own girl," and received over three thousand submissions.  Five of those submissions are now hanging on the wall where the original "Girl with a Pearl Earring" used to hang, and one of those five was from Vallarie and Arturo Enriquez of El Paso.  The submission that got all the controversy and publicity however, was an AI (artificial intelligence) version by Julian van Dieken.

We would like to thank the entire staff at the El Paso Museum of History for putting on a great exhibition and a wonderful opening.

And also thanks to Federico Villalba and Miana Saucedo who took the best photos of the opening.
